The WPJFL season concluded on the weekend with the U/17's Hedland Reds taking on the Karratha Falcons in the Grand Final. The Hedland Reds were the reigning premiers and the Falcons were out for revenge after going down to Hedland in 2016.
Throughout the year there has been nothing between the two sides with multiple games being decide by a goal or less. The Falcons finished the season on top of the ladder and hosted the Grand Final at Bulgarra and rightfully went into the Grand Final as favourites.
The Hedland Reds entered the game full of hope and belief despite their underdog status. They trained hard and there was a real good feel amongst the group generated from events such as a pre-grandfinal dinner on Friday night.
Unfortunately, the Hedland Reds were unable to go back to back. The Falcons were too good on the day and deservedly ran out Premiers for 2017.
The Hedland Reds in both the 15's & 17's had a fantastic year and should be congratulated on their efforts. In the 5 years of the club being established we have won three flags and participated in another grand final.
A big thank you goes out to all the volunteer helpers- coaches, bus drivers, committee members, umpires, waterboys and the like.
Enjoy your off season rest and recharge for the 2018 season to continue to provide such a fantastic team environment for our young men and woman.
