On Wednesday the 30th of May and the Thursday the 31st May, VSwans held our Kicking and Shooting Goals Incentive Trip to Hedland. We took away 80 students, making up 2 football and 4 netball teams. The students represented Newman SHS and competed against schools from the Pilbara such as; Port Hedland, Karratha, St Luke’s and Tom Price.
The students qualified for this trip by showing good behaviour in class, being up to date with assessments, and maintaining high uniform compliance in Kicking and Shooting Goals classes.
All of our Netball teams put in a great effort with our Division 1 Netball year 9/10 team winning their competition. Our Division 2 Netball Year 7/8 team were runners up after a close and entertaining Grand Final.
Best and Fairest players for each netball division were:
Div 1 Year 7/8: Mikaela Leger
Div 2 Year 7/8: Stella Wade
Div 1 Year 9/10: Leah McDonnell
Div 2 Year 9/10: Ayba Bakes
We are very proud of the efforts of our football teams. The Year 7/8’s improved as the carnival wore on, which was pleasing given that a lot of the team had never played an organised football game before the carnival, Our Year 9/10’s played some good football, with an exciting draw agains the Kickikg Goals Students from Hedland SH in th efinal game..
Best and Fairest players for footy were:
Year 7/8 : Blair Avery
Year 9/10: Quinn Jerry
All of the feedback from our coaches was positive, and they really enjoyed seeing the players develop both on and off the field/court.
Thank you to all the students that were involved, your behaviour on this trip was a credit to both the Newman SHS and the Kicking and Shooting Goals Programs.
We would like to thank Mr Natale, Ms Higgott and Mr Clemett, as well as Kelly and Mick Kendrick, for volunteering their time to help on the camp. Your efforts and input enhanced the experience for the students who went on the trip.
