VSwans East Pilbara held two events on Tuesday the 19th of February to help raise funds for the Kicking/Shooting Goals and Shooting Hoops programs. The funds raised at the events subsidise the cost of the incentive trips and rewards that the students in the programs earn by:

  • Showing good behaviours in classes,
  • Wearing correct uniform to all Kicking/Shooting Goals and Shooting Hoops classes,
  • High Attendance at School and
  • Volunteering in the community.

The events coincided with a visit to Newman by WCE stars Luke Shuey, Mark Hutchings and Jaymie Graham. We also had Fremantle Women’s captain Kara Donnellan and they were all heavily involved in both events. We would like to thank Luke, Mark, Jaymie and Kara for their efforts and WCE for their support of the fundraisers.

The Kids Corner @ The Square Event saw The Square transformed into a football and netball activity centre, as kids had a go at both sports. The players also signed posters, posed for photos and got involved in the activities with the kids. Our Kicking/Shooting Goals and Shooting Hoops students were also on hand to help with the activities, as well as sell raffle tickets, drinks and a sausage sizzle.

The Kicking Goals, Shooting Goals and Shooting Hoops Annual Fundraiser was held later that night, at the Newman Hotel. The crowd had the chance to meet and greet the players, as well as ask questions, take some photos and hear tales about the highs and lows of life as an AFL Footballer. There was a silent auction, with signed jumpers and balls all being snapped up, as well as our raffle being drawn.

Both events were well supported by the Newman Community, and this helped to make the fundraising events a huge success.

A big thank you to the following local organisations for their support of the events:

  • Shire of East Pilbara
  • Newman Hotel
  • Newman Vets Football Club
  • Woolworths Newman
  • Home Hardware Newman
  • Sportspower Newman
